Ballymun Creative Lab

Posted on 15th July 2016

The Ballymun Creative Lab is an innovative collaborative art project developed in partnership by the Rediscovery Centre, the NCAD Access Programme and the Axis Centre, Ballymun. Through photography, media, technology, and fashion, the programme aims to inspire young people from DEIS schools to engage creatively with the principles of the circular economy and sustainability. This programme is a pilot for other such programmes that will be developed in the Rediscovery Centre’s 3D textbook, which will open as a centre for excellence in sustainable development education in January 2017.

The theme of the 2016 Creative Lab is “Past, Present, Future” to commemorate both the 1916 Centenary and the 50th anniversary of the Ballymun flats complex, so the programme deliberately engages with the topics of archives and memories. This theme additionally echoes the ongoing refurbishment of the Ballymun Boiler House through the Rediscovery Centre’s WISER Life+ project, which is transforming the landmark into an education centre that both honours the history of the area and demonstrates its potential to lead the way to a greener future.
