In an effort to reduce furniture waste, Ikea has launched a furniture buy-back and resale scheme. Depending on the state of the furniture returned, Ikea will buy back at different rates. These used items will be sold in a separate part of the store called the Circular Hub. In addition to the in-store resale scheme, Ikea has also announced they are teaming up with the online marketplace, Gumtree, in order to sell even more second-hand products.
This initiative not only comes as the market for secondhand goods is increasing but as Ikea works to meet their 2030 goal of becoming fully circular. The scheme is currently available in Scotland, with plans to roll out to other locations in the UK and Ireland on November 27.
