Webinar ‘The EC Circular Economy Action Plan – Moving Forward’

The Rediscovery Centre and the Environmental Protection Agency are hosting a webinar on the European Commission’s recently released Circular Economy Action Plan (CEAP). The webinar ‘The EC’s Circular Economy Action Plan – Moving Forward’ will commence with an introduction by Mary Frances Rochford (EPA), a short summary of the CEAP by Laura Niessen (Rediscovery Centre) and a discussion with guest experts about the CEAP’s impacts in Ireland and across the EU:

– Philip Nugent (Assistant Secretary, Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment)
– Ladeja Godina Košir (Founder and Executive Director of Circular Change)
– Cillian Lohan (Member of the European Economic and Social Committee and CEO of the Green Economy Foundation).

Philip Nugent is Head of Natural Resources and Waste Policy at the Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment. His responsibilities include mineral exploration and mining, petroleum exploration and production, inland fisheries, Geological Survey Ireland and waste policy. Prior to taking up this position, Philip worked for 18 years in the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government / Department of the Environment in variety of roles in the planning, housing, and marine planning environment areas. He has previously worked in the waste policy / circular economy area also, having served as Principal Officer in Waste Policy and Resource Efficiency from 2013 – 2016.

Ladeja Godina Košir, Founder and Executive Director of Circular Change is an internationally renowned expert for circular economy, speaker and co-creator of international CE events. Ladeja was the finalist of The Circular Leadership Award 2018 (Davos WEF), recognised as the regional engine of circular economy transition. She is the co-author of the first Roadmap towards the Circular Economy in Slovenia and creator and team leader of the annual international Circular Change Conference.
Ladeja has several international roles:
– the Chair of the coordination group of the European Circular Economy Stakeholder Platform
(ECESP) in Brussels,
– visiting professor at the Doshisha University in Kyoto,
– Co-leader of the Research Group Circular Economy Systems at the Bertalanfy Center for the
Study of Systems Science (BCSSS) in Vienna.

Cillian is the CEO of Irish Environmental NGO the Green Economy Foundation and representative on the Environmental Pillar in Ireland. He has been a member of the European Economic and Social Committee since 2015. A graduate of University College Cork and University of Ulster, his expertise lies in Circular Economy specifically and the role of new economic models in the just transition to a low carbon future. He has rapporteured EESC reports a range of related subjects from Climate Justice and Climate Finance to the suite of legislative proposals arising from the European Commission’s Circular Economy Action Plan. He has played an active role in the founding and steering of the European Circular Economy Stakeholder Platform. He is a regular speaker on the international stage on Circular Economy matters. He is an active participant in the United Nations COP process, as part of the EU delegation, linking a range of climate files with circular economy through the Global Climate Action Agenda.
