Minister Ossian Smyth TD visits The Rediscovery Centre

Posted on 24th June 2021

We were delighted to welcome the Minister of State with Responsibility for the Circular Economy, Ossian Smyth TD, to The Rediscovery Centre in Ballymun on Thursday June 24th.

One of the first global instances of ministerial responsibility for the circular economy, the Green Party TD recently took up the newly created position to lead on circular economic policy and initiatives across the Irish government.

For his first visit to The Rediscovery Centre, CEO Dr. Sarah Miller introduced Minister Smyth to the centre’s many closed loop systems and circular economy features. He also spoke with team members  from our four social enterprises as well as our education and public engagement programmes. Alongside Rediscover Fashion and Rediscovery Furniture, the Minister learned about the national expansions of both our Education Programme and Rediscover Paint, about the increased sale of second hand bikes from Rediscover Cycling, and about our ambition for national public engagement with the circular economy. Furthermore, the Minister visited our Eco Store which is selling many sustainable and refurbished second hand items, as well as our kitchen garden where we are growing our own food for The Boilerhouse Café.

Finally, the Minister learned about our research and policy work which aims to help Ireland transition from a linear to a circular economy. We welcome the opportunity to work with the Minister on this policy work in the future.
