Arran Murphy

Rediscover Fashion Programme Manager

Arran Murphy

Introducing Arran Murphy, programme manager for Rediscover Fashion since January 2020. Arran is responsible for managing, training and upskilling the Rediscover Fashion team, who design and create products for the Eco Store, as well as for bespoke commissions, using circular design principles and our stock of donated and reclaimed fabrics. Arran also facilitates sewing and upcycling workshops to the public, university students, secondary school students and community groups. A highlight of her work is travelling around the country giving repair demonstrations.

Arran has a background in costume and fashion design, and has always been fascinated in the stories that clothes can tell – as illustrated by her photography thesis for her BA in communications studies entitled Clothes as a Social Phenomena. Working with Rediscover Fashion has now brought Arran’s focus to the political and economical stories told by our clothes.

Last year, Arran was able to bring her experience in costume design to Rediscover Fashion, with the creation of the ‘Nymph’ costume for CoisCeim’s Go To Blazes nominated for best costume design in the Irish Theatre Awards 2023.

Arran is passionate about empowering people to explore their creativity through expanding their sewing and repair skills. She believes this is a hugely positive way to change our relationship with our clothes, and the fashion industry as a whole, one that is very possible for each and every one of us – all you need is a needle and thread.
