Ireland’s Urban Bioeconomy – Opportunities for Climate Action

Project: Ireland’s Urban Bioeconomy – Opportunities for Climate Action
Funder: EPA Research Programme
Duration of Project: 01/11/2024 – 30/06/2025
Partners: UCD-based BiOrbic Bioeconomy Research Centre
Status: Open
About:
The urban bioeconomy is about the connection between people, nature and economy in our cities and towns. One of our newest projects called Ireland’s Urban Bioeconomy – Opportunities for Climate Action will explore the current actions that can be scaled-up and new actions to address the gaps in urban bioeconomy policy and implementation that help tackle climate change. We will also consider how industry, governance, research and society can collaborate in urban areas to improve bioresource efficiency, minimise waste and protect nature as part of climate action.
The project will be delivered together with UCD-based BiOrbic Bioeconomy Research Centre and will help inform upcoming policy updates of Ireland’s Bioeconomy Strategy, second Bioeconomy Action Plan and revised Climate Action Plan. This Fast Track to Policy project is funded under the EPA Research Programme 2021-2030. The EPA Research Programme is a Government of Ireland initiative.
